Yet an album that has been released for a while, it hit the streets last year in the end of April, though I haven't gotten to it before now, shame on me!
An excess of grinding armageddon is what the band serves, on this their second release. Their first release is titled 'Retroactive Abortion' and was released in 2004 on Ipecac Recordings, but again, it didn't strike me until now. How could I miss a band consisting of Kevin Sharp, Shane Embury, Danny Herrera and Buzz Osbourne? Today Buzz has left the band and Embury has switched to guitar and handed the bass duties to Danny Lilker, that doesn't make anything worse.
It would be a fat lie to say that Venomous Concept renews anything, as they hit it off in the style of the bands the gentlemen have used most of their time in, Napalm Death and Brutal Truth. That right, a great dose of brutal and striking grindcore, done the old school way with a fat punk attitude to it. The tracks are straight to the bone, quite catchy and of course fast and brutal. The chainsaw riffing is done nicely and with impact, the pummeling bass is pummeling, even though it is mixed quite low. The drums grind and gets a good beating and the vocals of Kevin Sharp is as good as ever, not as wicked as he can be, though still solid and in your ears.
An entertaining and ferocious attack from the 4 legends, they have taken and old road and sound and made it up to date and even more energetic, 17 tracks of viciousness, can you resist?
