Tennessee 2004

Don't say you've heard what a great jam band can do until you hear the wondrous river of liquid prog (minus the schizoid math rock's sharp edges) that flows into your aural centers from this live performance (Bonnaroo 2004) by Praxis. Praxis' sound encompasses psyche rock, funk, jazz and metal in a color-outside-the-lines work of art that follows no (apparent) preset itinerary. It gets where it needs to, with a smooth flow and rare powers of audio mesmerism. Dipping freely from the various genre pools that inform the band's sound, Praxis will pin you to the wall with its hypnotic potency. I'd call something like this a once-in-a-blue moon release but that might be overestimating the frequency of albums this good.

Upchuck Undergrind

Upchuck Undergrind listens to a little bit of a lot of things - just note the eclecticism of his reviews. He also reads voraciously and loves movies. He is a very open-minded Episcopalian (and student of Buddhism and Hinduism) who thinks Slayer is one of the greatest metal bands. Ever. In addition to his work with Corazine - for which he has written since its inception (he is a Fishcomcollective veteran) - he also writes for DJFix.com.
