Put this one on the shelf next to Mastodon. Not, mind you, that this is a clone. But Perth Express is operating under the umbrella of a similar artistic aesthetic with its music. What you get is a dense yet sharp barrage of hardcore and metal fused and balanced impeccably. The metalcore technical frenzy is pushed into realms of thickness by the stoner-gone-wild production, which makes this feel at times like precision sludge at fast forward. Like Mastodon, it's not immediately accessible for everyone, but those who allow themselves to be immersed will be rewarded.
