Temple of Guilt

Temple of Guilt

I've always known one- and two-man bands to be a fair percentage of received promos, and it's been a while since I actually reviewed one, so it's about time for another one man project. As far as my experience goes, black metal of all sorts ranks number one when it comes to frequency, death metal being second. I once reviewed a thrash metal album performed by one man, and guess what: the mastermind has returned with a solo doom album. I said back then that Jacobo was a jack of all trades, but now that would almost be an understatement. I already heard some material by this guy, so it's long since clear that he knows what he's doing. With seemingly ever-abundant creativity, Jacobo composed an hour of to-the-point doom metal. Most work is done by the mastermind himself, although a few session musicians give that extra hint of (a full band) authenticity to the sound. "Temple of Guilt" isn't quite the 'funeral' style, nor too heavy, but it harbors glimpses of a mournful and depressive soundscape, where even the tunes of black metal whisper in the distance. Emotions climax in rapturing tracks like "Failure", in an album that flows along effortlessly - I'm surprised how time can fly, with music this slow. A great debut for this project, I just wonder if Jacobo will continue with his newest creation, or if he's brooding something entirely new already. Whatever it'll be, I'm in for a listen.
