This Italian combo is apparently the living embodiment of "schizo death metal" - and the introductory track ("User advisory") warns us this is not a conventional metal album. The band seems pretty confident in their statement, and for some part, deservedly so. Due to the "schizo" tag, I really expected something as crazy as Cephalic Carnage, The Dillinger Escape Plan or even Iwrestledabearonce. Infernal Poetry doesn't attain that level of extremity and technicality, but then again, not many bands are comparable to world-class acts. And "Nervous System Failure" sets a fairly high standard by itself.
In all honesty, these guys deliver a pretty solid album. The songs often switch gears and implement plenty of musical variety. It's obvious where the "schizo" is coming from, although that term is perhaps a tad too powerful for what's really happening. Infernal Poetry plays a tight set of modern, groovy metal - with tons of experimentalish sidesteps. These sidesteps feel more like clever twists to existing genres than really all-out, pathological metal.
To summarize, Infernal Poetry is still too dulcet to be truly "schizo", but that's not a bad thing, really: we've got ourselves a cleanly produced, grooving album that's brimming with stylish eccentricity.
