Mesmerized In Stone

Mesmerized In Stone

This is one of the weirdest experiences I have had in a while with music. The 4 track demo kicks off with a primitive black metal track with an obscure production. A production that haunts the demo all the way through, though more fitting for the material after the first track in my opinion. Though after a little while the first track 'On Valkyrie's Path I March' gets on track and turns into the blackened heavy metal that is displayed throughout the rest of the demo.

Intertwined into the blackened heavy metal we have a healthy dose of gothic metal, lead on by the female vocalist Mahrissa, whose vocals are a nice contrast to the dark and screamed main vocal. The atmospheres FireSword invokes with the gothic parts and mysterious intermezzos within the tracks do the overall atmosphere and impression of the demo real good.

The band hails from Spain and this is their 4th demo, which I am sure will talk to some parts of the metal scene, though not all. As it isn't easy accessible and I have to admit, that I found it pretty bad after my first listen. Though luckily I gave it a shot and a hell of a lot more spins, and that opened up for some quite charming metal in its very own way. With a proper production I think FireSword could gain some noise here and there.

A Danish metalhead on the way to become old, enjoys most types of metal, though brutality and darkness are mostly preferred,  and too modern takes on metal are not always positively looked upon. Have been writing about metal for 10 years in own and at other publications as Fishcomcollective, Ancient Ceremonies, Northern Shadows and now Corazine and the upcoming Terror Propaganda (might have forgotten a few, come and kick my arse!).
