Dark Chamber Litanies (2)

Dark Chamber Litanies

Spanish combo Dawn Of Tears has released this EP earlier this year - just a little appetizer before their second full-length. The band has succesfully performed in a few "competitions", and I can imagine their style of melodic death metal is a general crowd pleaser indeed. There are bits reminiscent of bands like Kalmah and In Flames, but Dawn Of Tears usually keeps it much simpler. A good rhythm line, accompanied by a catchy tune and subtle, background synths: it's the basic melodic formula applied in practice. The drums switch gears often enough to give plenty of dynamics to the songs, and the vocals sound incredibly familiar, but I can't stick a name to it (if anyone knows what band I'm talking about, let me know). This band consists of talented individuals, and the beauty is that they don't overdo it as a unit: their compositions are very transparent and lucid, yet containing a healthy dose of versatily and aggression. Dawn Of Tears truly takes its time to spin out the hymns (proof are the long tracks), without rushing or showing off technicality. Well done, and I'm looking forward to that second full album.
