Previously I had ran across the name ‘Cry Havoc’ a few time, and now finally I got a demo from them. Note that I’m writing about the Japanese noise artist, cause I noticed that there seems to be a UK metal band with that name too. Where’s the originality these days. After listening to the tape, I was slightly disappointed though. You get noise all right, but I found it not the least bit clever. I take Merzbow over this any day. Perhaps this is one of Cry Havocs early works, and still one big experiment… Most of the tracks painfully sound alike, and generally I found that any elements that could have made the tracks worthwhile are washed away by one overused distortion effect. Kinda like a one-trick pony. The noise itself is rather harsh, so if you’re into that you might appreciate this tape. Still even then it might be a good tape to listen to as background music, but you won’t find yourself being amazed & listening attentively to this demo. Unless you’re the kind of person who would enjoy spending a day reading one magazine again and again. “Sep, 2001” is a rather generic noise demo, check it out of you are a huge fan, otherwise look for better.
