Looking at the cover of Coffin Birth - a bunch of darkly clad fellows looking into a grave aglow with evil light with a semi-squiggly logo - kind of had me thinking this might be black metal. But something also kept that guess slightly at bay. Good thing, too. Black metal this isn't. Put your tongue - just slightly - in cheek, throw up your metal horns, and get ready for some goth-mood, old-schoolish, scratch-vocal thrash. It's not of the bullet-y speed metal variety - for thrash, it's a bit mid-tempo. And it's got a helluva groove. It's not overly complex music and this could certainly share a bill with horror punkers, so far as tone and straight-forwardness are concerned. But it's driven, dark and catchy. Sounds about right for horror thrash, eh?
