Blodsrit, aaarghh! When I hear blackmetal and Scandinavian in one sentence, a bell starts ringing! That's where it all came from. Which means the best still comes from there. These guys are Swedish, and this is their second full-length album.

This is traditional, raw blackmetal, with some minor melodic influences. Traditional or not, Blodsrit is damn good. I really get into the riffs (even while typing this) they are basic (just what we like anyway) but they have this flow... You listen and you keep listening, that sort of stuff. They repeat riffs, but they mind not to bore with them. Songs are therefore fun to listen to, solid blackmetal but enough variation in the music. I don't know why but most of their riffs sound somewhat melodious (apart from the melodies that is).

The Rape of Vestial Purity (track five) is the first song that makes me compare to another band. Old Satyricon immediately came into my mind when I heard this song (and believe me or not, Panchrysia - very similar tune). Which can't be considered as a bad thing, hehe.

In track six another element draws my attention. I wondered why they put Viking next to Black as their genre. Well here it is (I guess): the guitars have a slower pace for some time, they sound a bit different. There is this one riff that makes me think vaguely of Thyrfing, also in that genre. Very nice!

Looking at the whole album, I consider it as a great example of how blackmetal can sound. Ludovic Tournier (Nehëmah, Himinbjorg, ...) produced this, which results in a very professional result. All nine songs stay nicely between four and six minutes of playtime. This album is released on a sublabel of Adipocere Rec., namely Oaken Shield Rec. Their former label quit business before their album got released, so they ended up with Oaken Shield. You want more Blodsrit? Go visit www.adipocere.fr!
