Blacktrip's 3-track promo contains 'metal' that I can hardly specify any further, i.e. I can't stick a genre on it. Some riffs are quite metalcorish (even sounds like punk on speed, in the first song) but there are also a number of soothing or striking melodies to be found, a bit in the vein of Amorphis. Although there are some nice ideas present, the songs seem to change style with every new riff: from distant punk influences over metalcore to melodic metal. I won't complain about production or tightness since Black Trip is underground stuff and I'm not a difficult guy, hehe. They could still use some improvement on the compositional/structural side though: perhaps growing into a more fixed style would be a solid basis to depart from. However, I have to admit that I caught myself nodding my head along on this disc... If this band grows more experienced and mature (musically) I will look forward to their next release.
