So here it finally is. The first full-length album of Blacklodge. I've read a lot of positive reviews about them (and the promo) so let's check this out. I'm pretty unfamiliar with the 'industrial' part though. On the other hand, I do have good experiences with French blackmetal, hehe.

As the cd starts, my first impressions are indeed positive. You can hear rightaway this is NOT traditional blackmetal. I really like some of the industrial influences. For example, the voice is not actually screamed or anything. It's mostly enhanced with some techno-like distortion.

It's an ok effect, together with the drums (or rather the supportive beats) which remind of techno and the electronical music. It's just something you like or you don't. I don't really like techno, but here it's not a disturbing element.

I'm very fond of the guitars (well most of the time)! They play these cool black riffs and tunes. They sound evil, and are VERY distorted. Sometimes I think the gain is a little overused, it doesn't sound healthy anymore. Then again, it sticks close to the extra distorted voice. Anyway, they produce great, structured songs.

When they go up-tempo now and then, the drums (computer) are kind of black oriented, but with this electronical sound to them (it's like the bassdrum is replaced by these techno pulses or something). The rhythms are fine, it all fits perfectly together.

Twelve tracks, every one of them filled with raw black elements and industrial beats. Good for almost fifty minutes. Sometimes the thought of a crappy production crosses my mind, but I get this feeling because everything is very distorted (the vocals and guitars) but it's still a raw black production. It's just their typical sound! For a debut album, I must say these guys really showed what they are capable of. A coherent and solid album, in a style not so commonly played. Great job!
