Mass III is a musical epos that has left me speechless, already upon the first minutes of listening. Though not quite doommetal, the atmosphere that is brought to life here is even more compelling and depressing. The songs themselves seem almost living entities, weeping in solitude. And that’s exactly what Amenra is emitting: postmodernism and surrealism, in the sense of endless monotony, everlasting melancholy and unchangeable, droning rhythms which eventually would drive one to lonely madness.
Discordant riffing, which due to its steadiness contains quite some groove as well, combines with tearing screams and drums as subtle or pounding as possible. I’ve discovered something new, and fuck, it’s simply amazing. This album takes up its place in the range of metalgenres, as Samuel Beckett’s “Waiting for Godot” does in literature (both in quality, philosophy and atmosphere). You’d better check this out, it’s quite an experience.
