New wave redux! Forget Franz Ferdinand. If you want proof that new wave lives, check out Action Action. This band blends indie rock sensibilities with electronic elements right out of the 80s and blatant NW songwriting ethic to create a sound that is somehow modern but most definitely retro-minded, though not outright retro. Calling to mind such acts as Madness (without the ska) The Smiths and, of course, British new wave in general, Action Action really captures a flavor that old schoolers will recognize but that new audiences should dig as well. While it is true Action Action never quite leaves pastiche territory and isn't quite as frivolously entertaining as the original styles being referenced, the band is nonetheless a solid act.
