Lots of us into doom and stoner rock/metal and all the heavy, blues-rock based musculature that fills the psychedelic hard rock scene are, on some deep level, just looking for solid rock-and-fucking-roll. Metal and rock both came from blues; doom/stoner REALLY came from blues. I’ll name names: Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Blue Cheer. We want big rock, heavy riffs, honest music, tons of attitude, the scent of fermented brew coming off the music (and the requisite smoke drifts). We want high energy, power, ballsy lyrics, music to JAM to. Well, here you go. HONKY’s new album “421″ is all of that, done well, not generically. HONKY sounds like HONKY, as opposed to just another rock band. I’ll take ‘em over radio hell any day. Already listened to the album twice, and I just got it. So there.
