MISSILE TO THE MOON is a hoot all by its lonesome. Boost it with the power of Mystery Science Theater 3000′s trio of tinseltown terrorizers Mike Nelson, Bill Corbett and Kevin Murphy, and you’ve got a great cheese sandwich of cinema fun. MISSILE TO THE MOON fairly invites lampooning, practically begs for the MST3K bunch to hurl smart-asseries in its direction. It seems the government thinks it should have something to say about the old scientist who’s building a moon rocket IN HIS FUCKING BACK YARD. But no messenger from the military – officer or not – is going to stop the golden space-bound oldster from completing his task, said task being a visit to the moon. Hope that wasn’t a spoiler for you; I figured the title gave that much away. Anyway, a couple of hoodlum kids pick the very night the scientist is determine to launch – in spite of the military – to hide away in his rocket ship. Because, you know, if I was on the lam from the law, I’d go hide in a rocket ship. I have to say, MISSILE TO THE MOON is highly educational. I’d no idea there are desert scrubs and clouds on the moon, or that the sky was so bright, or that there were caves with ATMOSPHERE on the moon. So our old guy and the hoodlums – and the old guy’s square-jawed hero (plus his sig other), who just HAPPENED to step into the ship right before take-off time – end up moon-bound. Not everybody makes it to the moon alive; I’ll leave it to you to find out who. Those that do survive discover a RACE OF WOMEN on the moon. In theory, this seems like a nifty idea, but they’ve got some mind control abilities and some political power struggles and some risk of extinction issues going on; plus, they’ve got that HUGE scary spider puppet monster thing. As if that wasn’t bad enough, there are also the rock monsters, which look like evil Gumby on steroids suffering from a horrible skin condition. Like I said, MISSILE TO THE MOON would be a B-flick fan feast all on its own, but the pleasure exponentially increases when you multiply MISSILE TO THE MOON by MST3K riffers!
